601 Squadron (County of London, Auxiliary Air Force)

(Re-created)
Our group has been extremely fortunate in getting hold of a large number of original photographs of 601 Squadron, pre-war, wartime and post-war. Much of this is due to the efforts of the Unit Historian, James Ivers, who spends a great deal of time in correspondence with various sources. We have also been very lucky to make the acquantence of Tom Molson, a former member of the squadron who wrote the excellent history of 601 - The Flying Sword. Mr. Molson now lives in California, and has very graciously provided us with many original photographs. Also Mr. Ted McMannus of the Battle of Britain Historical Society provided us with a source for some very wonderful wartme photographs. In some instances the squadron members themselves, or their immediate family, have provided us with photographs. Jack Riddle and Bill Higgs, both formerly of 601 Squadron (and now in the 601 OCA) provided photographs, and John Williams gave access to the photos of his father, 'Doc' Williams.
All put together it makes a rather remarkable record of one of the premeir squadrons of the RAF, and a fanstastic bunch of men who served. Most have never been published before, so it's a rare opportunity to get a good glimpse of 601 Squadron.
Note: All photographs on this site belong to either 601 Squadron Re-created, or the individuals who allowed permissions to use photographs that belong to them. No photographs should be reproduced without written permission from the contacts on this site.
