NED GROSVENOR’S FLYING HELMET
The spiritual home of 601 Squadron has and always will be Hendon. This seems even more fitting since the RAF Museum is now located there. And to date, the curators at Hendon have been more than extremely kind in providing data, information and photographs from their extensive and impressive collection.
Ned Grosvenor formed 601 and then developed the scarlet flying sword that would become the iconic symbol of the Squadron. It was of course natural to his nature that he might see fit to adorn his own personal flying helmet with his creation. These photographs were very kindly provided by the museum staff at Hendon.
