Not much is known about him. I found a collection of photographs online in an auction, and noticed some 601 paperwork included, so made a bid and won. All I know for certain is that John Alfred Edwards was in the Royal Air Force during the war, and was at the very least in the Middle East. He enlisted in the Auxiliary Air Force in 1954, and I’m assuming that is when he joined 601 Squadron.
Apparently his son was in the RAF and there are some fascinating personal letter in the lot to that regard. Requires more research.
