ALEXANDER STEWART MacDONALD
Alexander Stewart MacDonald joined the RAFVR about December 1937 as an Airman u/t Pilot. Called up on 1st September 1939, he completed his training and joined 604 Squadron at Northolt in March 1940.
On 10th May 604 Squadron provided an escort for Blenheims detailed to bomb German transport aircraft on the beach at Wassenaar, Holland.
During the action three Blenheims, piloted by MacDonald, F/O JB Selway and P/O IKS Joll, shared in the destruction of three Ju52’s.
MacDonald was posted to 601 Squadron at Middle Wallop on 11th June 1940. He made his first flight with the squadron on the 14th, a sector recconaissance. He made his first sortie on 6th July, a patrol.
On 13th August MacDonald probably destroyed a Me110.
His last flight with 601 was made on 4th September 1940. There is no further mention of him in the Squadron ORB.
His subsequent service is currently undocumented but as he does not appear in CWGC records it is believed that he survived the war.
